I want to share an artist with you. We connected through Etsy when she featured one of my pieces and we began a sweet little dialogue. Her work just blows me away ~ quite literally. I know how much patience it takes to do certain things when working on a flat surface, but Dianna works on clothing and shoes! Not only does she create some of the most unique art I have seen . . . her ART is SCRIPTURE! Her shop is named “Stepping Out In Faith” and is so aptly named that I really couldn’t give you a better description. So, please let me introduce you to Dianna Wood (let me give you a preview of what she does)! Seriously . . . LOOK at THIS Jacket!
It all started at the age of nine when my 4th grade teacher told us to open our history books. She started talking about the “Wild West”. I was bored out of my mind so I decided to try to draw the saddle that was depicted on page 49. (I don’t really remember that it was on page 49. I just thought that would sound good.) Anyway, that was the beginning. I spent the next 40 years creating.
I have dabbled in every form of creative art including, but not limited to; fashion design, interior design, oil painting, jewelry design, chalk pastel, abstract mixed media, Trompe L’oeil, cake decorating, floral arrangement, doll making, photography, and even set design. I dreamed that one day I would be recognized and able to spend my days doing something fabulous in the art world—and then I met the Lord.
He changed my entire orientation. I have spent the past 15 years, getting to know Him better. I had not used my artistic gift in years. Then a lady at work started hand-painting high heel shoes. Knowing my background in the arts, she brought in a pair and asked me to see what I could do with them. I reluctantly agreed- and that is how my line of wearable art started.
I reasoned that if I was going to spend time creating again – it would be for His Glory and to share His beauty with others. I wanted to paint the beauty of Christ into the souls of others, one brush stroke at a time.
“But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord my refuge, that I may tell of all your works” (Psalm 73:28).
If you are a Christian, grace has reconciled you to God the Father. Because Christ suffered the wrath of God on our behalf, those who put their trust in Him, have been reconciled to God. Grace means He is in you and you are in Him. Grace has made it impossible for us to be alone. God’s greatest gift to you is not your salvation or His forgiveness (as wonderful as those things are). God’s greatest gift to us is Himself! But we don’t always acknowledge His presence. When we act as if he is distant, we panic in the face of the normal difficulties of life in this fallen world and in the face of the perplexities of God’s sovereign plan.
I have found that most of our struggles come from not acknowledging the presence of Christ in our lives. . We can so easily get distracted by the things of this world and loose our Joy! Therefore, my motivation in this line of Theology Art, is to remind us every moment of everyday that He is present! When I am wearing a pair of my boots or one of my jackets, I have a constant reminder of Him. My hope is that this line of wearable art will be used by God to help those who are His to remember that He is always present with us; help us to acknowledge Him in all we do and say; and, also to draw more people to Him through the doors of opportunity that are constantly opened whenever I wear His Word! Let us not be shy about our Love and loyalty to Christ the King! So many of us wear clothes that tell the world which football team we love. Should we not also want to declare or loyalty to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords?
My hope is that the items that I create will help others “Walk in the Light of His Face” and in thus doing make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others all to the Glory of the God who created us!
“You have a mighty arm; strong is your hand, high your right hand. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before you. Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O LORD, in the light of your face, who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted. For you are the glory of their strength; by your favor our horn is exalted. For our shield belongs to the LORD, our king to the Holy One of Israel. Psalm 89:13-18
